ABOUT THE ARTIST

Winifred Stanard was raised in New Orleans by an entrepreneurial father and a creative mother steeped in handicraft and handmade couturier dresses...and who imbued "Winnie" with a love of design and with an adventuresome can-do spirit. After graduating from UCLA Winifred studied ceramics at UCLA's graduate art department. She started Winifred Cole of California, a ceramic design business producing hand-made ceramic floral arrangements and wall sculptures. For 32 years, Winifred Cole earned a reputation for elegant home décor. Her floras were featured in the lobby of London's Connaught Hotel. In 2001 Bovano Designs of Cheshire, Connecticut acquired Winifred Cole and continues to market Winifred's designs worldwide.

Winifred's continuing education at UCLA included the Interior Design Program. She collaborated with architects and contractors who liked accommodating her designs and has applied her skills to many new construction and renovation projects for herself and others. Fortunately, many share her taste.

Winifred is happiest when designing, and believes good design applies to every aspect of life. Needing a new project Winifred went back to school, this time to create jewelry. It didn't take long to get the encouragement from her teachers and she formed the Winifred Cole Collection to produce and offer an exciting new line of one-of-a-kind designs. Her pieces incorporate blown glass, as well as precious and semi-precious gemstones gathered from around the world. Her artistic expression can be bold and dramatic, elegant and sophisticated, colorful and whimsical, delicate and demure -- but always with an eye for perfect proportion and balance.
